Sagging Skin Treatments

Sagging skin is a common symptom of ageing or for those who have recently lost weight. It is also referred to as “turkey neck” and it can be a real drag on your confidence and appearance. You may think that sagging skin can only be treated with surgery, but this is a myth.

There are non-surgical sagging skin treatments available and in this blog we will discuss what these are.

Because the skin around your collar and neck has less collagen it is prone to sagging when you get older or with excessive sun exposure, which can be a real problem here in Australia. Also, the neck is an often forgotten area when it comes to applying a skin care routine, so when problems begin to arise it is often too late to just start applying creams.

Another interesting fact about sagging skin is that excessive mobile phone use has been shown to contribute to sagging skin. Looking down at the screen causes gravity to act upon your head, face and neck in an unnatural way contributing to sag. Also a study on mice showed that the radiation emitted from phones puts the skin under oxidative stress, which increases the signs of ageing, skin pigmentation and spots.

This is not to scare you, but it is to show that no matter what age you are at, thinking about and looking after your skin is important.

Sagging Skin Treatments

There are a couple of treatment options available for sagging skin.

CO2 Fractional Lasers

This method uses a handheld device that produces thermal heat to heat the moisture in the skin. This process stimulates the skin cells and improves the tone, texture and appearance of the skin.

The laser also initiates collagen production which brings about the healing of the skin while tightening it. It is non-invasive and targets various skin conditions along with sagging.

It is made highly effective when enacted by a trained professional who can target the specific areas of the face that will maximise the treatment’s effect.

PRP Treatment

PRP or platelet-rich plasma is a completely natural and again non-surgical sagging skin treatment. It combines the power of your own blood along with micro-needling to provide nutrient rich platelets to your skin and also promote healing and blood flow.

It is a safe and effective skin treatment that can be done during your lunch break.

Blood is taken and then spun in a centrifuge to divide it into its various components. This nutrient rich mixture is then reintroduced into the face and targeted areas. The body readily accepts it and acts to heal the skin and various conditions. Multiple treatments may be needed for more severe conditions, but generally people notice results within a few weeks.

If you have sagging skin or perhaps the early signs of it, then the best thing to do is discuss your options with a professional. Depending on the severity or other factors such as sun damage, different approaches may be recommended.
