I have a rather noisy environment (car and vehicle populated street 24/24 outside my windows) so I can’t use my studio condenser mic. My studio is far from being proofed right now and I need to record voice-overs for my audiobooks.

I am choosing a really good mic from Rode, Rode Procaster, which is right now 166 EUR, higher than studio condenser low end mics, but it is built in Australia, very rugged and works like a charm, many say. Also planning to stick in a TritonAudio FetHead, feed it with 48V Phantom Power from my Focusrite Soundcard, so I can get 24db of clean amplifying from it. And then run it through a clean and nice 2-3 meter balanced microphone cable to my soundcard.

I hope this setup will enable me to turn my books into audiobooks the right way.
(ps I’ve come with this setup after a whole day reading and searching on how to do this).

cheers, great article btw

What they are plugged into does not provide power to the mic. The signal generated by a dynamic mic comes solely from the “power” of the sound waves from your voice. This is why they are generally not as sensitive as condenser mics, which as you say receive an electric voltage.
