How long does PRP last?

Along with how the process works and how long it takes to see results, how long does PRP last is one of the most common questions we get asked here at Hair and Skin Science.

We are a national leader in PRP treatments and treat over 100,000 people per year.

We have more experience than most with PRP, so we are perfectly placed to answer all your questions.

All your questions will be answered in person at a consultation, but if you’re still on the fence about PRP treatments, this post should help.

We’ll first outline the PRP process, where and how it is used and how quickly you’ll see results.

Then we’ll discuss how long the effects of PRP treatments last.

Hopefully, by the end of this page, we will have answered every question you have about PRP treatments!

What is PRP?

PRP, Platelet Rich Plasma, is a well-established treatment for a range of common hair and skin conditions.

We use it to treat genetic or stress-related hair loss, thinning hair, alopecia, patchy beards, wrinkles, fine lines, bags under eyes, dark circles under the eyes, stretch marks, acne scars and so much more.

As well as treating a wide range of conditions, PRP treatments are completely natural.

They use your own blood plasma as the treatment. There’s nothing added except a perfectly safe medical coagulant to help keep it liquid.

Otherwise, it’s completely natural!

How does PRP work?

PRP treatments use your own blood as the treatment.

This has obvious benefits as there’s no surgery, no medication, no chemical fillers, no recovery and very low risk of side effects.

Your blood contains growth factors your body uses naturally to heal, repair and regenerate.

PRP treatments use that natural process and those growth factors in the treatment.

We make you comfortable in one of our modern discreet clinics and take a small amount of blood.

We pass that blood through a medical centrifuge to separate the blood plasma we want from the rest.

We add that perfectly safe anticoagulant to the blood plasma to keep it liquid so we can use it and add it to a special microneedler.

We then apply the PRP solution directly into the affected area of the skin.

Once complete, we shine a red LED light onto the treated area to help minimise the risk of infection and swelling.

The appointment will last between 45 and 60 minutes so can be completed in a lunch hour or after work.

Once you leave, there will be little or no sign you had any work done!

What types of PRP treatments are there?

PRP is a well-established treatment that has been around for a number of years.

It was originally used to treat sports injuries and was found to be so effective, it was quickly used in other areas.

Types of PRP treatments can include:

PRP hair treatment

PRP hair treatment uses those growth factors to tackle many causes of hair loss, alopecia, thinning hair and other conditions.

PRP skin treatment

PRP skin treatment can help reduce wrinkles and fine lines, tackle scars, skin discolouration and other conditions.

PRP eye rejuvenation

PRP eye rejuvenation targets the area around the eyes to address bags under the eyes, dark circles, crow’s feet and other common conditions.

PRP hand rejuvenation

PRP hand rejuvenation is focused on the back of your hands, the area resistant to most other treatments. It can reduce wrinkles, discolouration and deliver younger-looking skin.

PRP facials

PRP facials focus on the face and can help reduce wrinkles, fine lines, acne scars and deliver younger-looking skin on the face.

PRP beard treatment

PRP beard treatment can be used to treat thin or patchy beards and help regenerate hair follicles for a lush beard.

PRP for stretch marks

PRP treatments for stretch marks can help reduce the signs of the marks and help regenerate unscarred and unmarked skin.

PRP neck and decolletage treatment

PRP neck and decolletage treatment tackles the neck, shoulders, upper back and upper chest. It can help reduce wrinkles, fine lines and produce more even skin tone.

The benefits of PRP treatment

The main benefit of PRP treatment is that it is proving very effective. Everyone is different, but overall, the many thousands of people we have treated see positive results.

That means PRP is one of the few treatments around that genuinely delivers on its promises!

The other benefit of PRP treatments is that it’s completely natural. Aside from the anticoagulant, we don’t add anything to your blood.

There is no need for surgery, for medication, for recovery or time off work.

It’s fast, convenient and accessible.

Most people over 18 and in good health can benefit from PRP treatments. People with certain blood-related conditions may not be able to undergo treatment but we can advise on those during a consultation.

How long until PRP starts showing results?

Now the million dollar question, when will you start seeing results from PRP treatment?

As you now know, PRP treatments use your body’s own growth factors and healing processes to tackle the condition in question.

The question of how long it takes until PRP starts showing results depends entirely on your age, overall health and wellbeing, the seriousness of the condition we are treating and your genetics.

We are all different and heal at different rates so there’s no exact answer here.

However, on average, clients we have treated with PRP begin showing tangible improvements within 6-12 weeks of treatment.

Yes it’s a long time, but we are using your own body’s natural healing processes and our bodies will not be rushed!

We will say that the effects can be well worth the wait though.

How long does PRP last?

Now to the main question posed in the title. How long does PRP last? More exactly, how long do the effects of PRP treatments last?

Again, much depends on your age, state of health, how quickly you heal and the severity of the condition.

On average, the clients we treat enjoy the benefits of the treatment for anything up to 18 months. Sometimes longer.

We are all different and heal and regenerate at different rates.

Hair and Skin Science treats thousands of patients per month so we have a fair idea of how long treatments last.

We tend to recommend top-up treatments every 6-12 months depending on the condition.

That’s something we can discuss in depth and much more specifically at a consultation.

How long do PRP treatments last?

As you can see, PRP treatments can be incredibly effective and are very flexible treatments.

PRP can help with many common hair and skin conditions and provide genuine results. All by using your own blood, your own growth factors and your own healing processes.

Results will vary depending on many variables, just like most things in medicine, but the vast majority of people treated by Hair and Skin Science are delighted with their new look.

Why not join them and let PRP transform your life?
